C-1 Visa

OVERVIEW

The C-1 visa, also known as the transit visa, allows non-immigrant travelers to leave the airport while waiting on a departing flight. The bearer of the C-1 visa may leave to visit family or friends, partake in tourist or shopping ventures, and enjoy the surroundings. Each family member should apply for a separate C-1 visa, enabling the entire family to travel through the U.S. while waiting for a departing flight.

An applicant may petition for the C visa in person or by mail. The applicant should contact the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate or Consular Office with jurisdiction over their permanent residence for additional information.
